The Ladies

Limey brought home six chickens today.  Two are australorps and the other four are cross breeds.

The australorps are a little shy compared to the others but hopefully they'll relax as they get used to their new home.

We are so excited about having chickens.  I'm in love with them all already.  It's also made us more excited about getting other animals.

Should we get pigs or goats next?

Checking out the scenery.

Stairway to heaven.
Wait a minute, that's not a chicken...and who's that creeping in the background?
Playing nice, no fighting yet.

  4. Way to go guys! You asked "Should we get pigs or goats next?". Maybe dogs or a donkey... and a shotgun. Some friends of ours had their whole flock wiped out (in the coop) by something recently and they never heard a thing. They didn't find out until they went for eggs the next day.

  5. Eeek! I hope that the 4 foot fence, supported by 3 feet of chicken wire, followed by heavy gauge coop wire and a rather well built coop (if I do say so myself!) should be enough to deter most critter and the like!

  6. How did something get into the coop? I can barely manage to open the latch on ours. The only predator that could get in there would be a very determined bear or the two legged kind.

  7. It looks very secure in the other pictures,I think you have done all you can do to keep them safe from predators. How did they make out going in last night? Did the girls eggs make it home without any accidents?LOL

  8. I had to carry them. Fortunately it wasn't hard to catch them.

One egg cracked in the van and the other cracked when it got home. I don't think either kid gets the concept of being gentle!

  9. The girls found their own way in to bed last night and tonight. They learn fast! They have also started eating scratch right out of our hands too.
