Look What I Found

Just when I was wondering if the quail would ever start laying, I found this in their cage.  When should I start incubating them?  I have chicken eggs in the incubator right now and they are due to hatch on the 18th.  I also have a dozen lavender orpington eggs being shipped out to me on the 14th.  Sooo the question is, can I incubate these with the next batch of chicken eggs?

  1. A friend of mine has had, chicken, banty, and pheasants eggs in his incubator all at the same time and they were all hatching at different times....he just kept adding them.Of course I don't know about the temps.....I think they may be different but he seemed to be pretty sucessful......he figured where the incubator was already being used why wait.I know there's a lot of fuss made about temp and humidity on BYC and like your last hatch my humidity was up and down.
    Checking my booklet.......

The info I got for my incubator shows the same temps and humidity for chicken and quail......the amount of days to incubate are different and the last day for turning them. What type of quail do you have?

  2. It shows here you incubate for 17 days, stop turning on the 15th day, temp 100 and wet bulb is 84-86......chickens is 85-87......so not much of a difference.
So.....really all you have to do is take them off the turner on the right day!! LOL Is there a spot in the incubator that you can put them? I know it would be a pain but you could take the turner out and turn the others by hand....just thinking.LOL I so want to get hatching myself.....it is was I enjoy the most!

  3. I can take out some of the turner pieces for the quail eggs at their lockdown and by the time it's lockdown for the chicken eggs, the quail should be out of there.

  4. Yes, you can incubate them with chicken days, you have to incubate the quail eggs within 8 days from laying. Put them large end up.

  6. Yeah but they are really hard to see. There are 3 brown eggs from my australorps (one of which I think is a dud) and a dozen green easter eggers eggs that I bought. I think all the greens are good but it's so hard to tell. I need a stronger light.
