Better Luck This Time?

As I mentioned previously, I purchased some plants from Veseys.  My last order from them did not go well.  The tulips came up the wrong colour and the never came up at all.  The glads came up but they were infested with thrips, which they would have had before I received them.  So my fingers are crossed that the order I placed this year does better.

Here's what I'm expecting in the mail.  Photos are from their online catalogue.

Variegated Weigela

Anne Magnolia

Bi-colour Butterfly Bush

Invincibelle  Spirit Hydrangea

Pink Beauty Potentilla

Miss Cally Wisteria

I've grown yellow Potentilla before but none of the other plants on this list grew in zone 3. There are a few more shrubs I'd like to get including some roses and I'll have a look locally for them. While I'm waiting for the plants to arrive I've been messing about with graph paper trying to figure out just where to put them.  Really, the first thing I need is a fence.  I'd love another picket fence but it's a lot of work to build.  I'm thinking a rustic split rail might be nice but where do I find rustic wood/logs to make a fence out of?

  1. Isn't that Butterfly Bush flower just gorgeous? I ordered one of those this year, too! I love Hydrangeas and Wisteria. I've never seen the Pink Beauty Potentilla, but the flowers are so pretty in that picture. What beautiful trees and plants you've chosen this year!

  2. I love the variagated Weigelia, we had one at my childhood home, very reliable bloomer. Good roses for our climate are in the Explorer series, my two favourites are John Cabot and Alexander Mckenzie.

  3. You're going to have a beautiful garden Limette.I really like the wisteria,I've seen them at my sisters' in Liverpool,at the park entrance except it was pink and magnolias too, they are kind of an odd bush, they look dead half the time.LOL
As I look out my window this morning at the brown grass,I long for some colour.I do have some crocuses that are blooming:)Such a sweet little flower.

  4. Basic Living; The pink is a new variety. You can find yellow Potentilla used in plantings at big stores like Canadian Tire, Home Depot, gas stations, McDonald's might have them. The flower is pretty small but I like them and they attract pollinators.

Joanne; I've grown some of the Explorer roses before but they didn't do as well for me (in zone 3) as the Rugosa I had.

Val; I'm going to grow something up the magnolia like clematis to pretty it up when it's not flowering.

  5. We have a variegated weigela, and it's one of my favourites. We have a dark one next to it, which is also lovely. That hydrangea is beautiful, and a magnolia is one of the first things that we're going to plant when we buy our perfect little homestead. Great choices!

  11. Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell
and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She put the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely
off topic but I had to tell someone!
