Capturing the Heat

We bit the bullet and spent the money to build a hoop house.  It cost about $600 and I'm hoping it'll pay for itself this year.

It didn't take long to put up despite some heavy winds.

The ends and sides have since been tidied up.  Tomorrow Limey will be putting in two glass windows and a door.

The hoop house measures 12'x32'. We'll be getting some soil delivered next week and then we can get planting!

In other news, the main garden has been tilled.  Soon we'll be facing the long, hard job of hoeing up our raised, wide row style beds.  I predict that I'll be needing a masseuse in the near future.

  1. Definitely impressive. Looks like you all did a really good job on it. What a treat to have one of these. It's on my "someday" list.

  2. About 8 years ago Dave built me a greenhouse for Mother's day. Then it costs 400$. It's only 8 x 10. Mind you we used the good greenhouse plastic. It was worth every penny since we still haven't had to replace it.

  3. Oh, I almost forgot, are you going to the Lawrenctown livestock auction tomorrow?(saturday). My hubby, Dave and his dad are going. He'll be the one with the Australian outback hat, introduce yourself.

I, unfortunately will be at work.

  4. What time is the auction? We weren't planning on going as dd1 has bowling in the morning. Limey's been asked about it quite a few times this week, so maybe we'll show up.

  5. It starts at 10:30 for what call the jumk and small animals (rabbits, ducks chickens etc...) and the large animal starts at around 1pm. Sometimes a little earlier. But it's buyer beware. Make sure the animal you buy is healthy.

I never buy an animal from there, except maybe chickens. You can get great deals, but you have to watch it.

I just like going for action and fun of it. Seeing the people is fun too. I'm a people watcher.

I'm sending Dave to get me a long haired male kitten. Sometimes people bring some to give away.

  7. That's a huge greenhouse. Lucky you. You've got one great guy there in Limey.
I'd love one too (greenhouse, not Limey!), but I wont be getting one for a year or two.

  9. Can't wait to see some pictures with the soil and plants in place. Will be interested to see how it is laid out.

  10. We're still trying to figure the layout as my original plan won't work with the extra supports in there.

  11. Ask questions about your soil, many companies are selling biosolids now cheaply. You don't want to grow food on that!
