Straight From the Bay

Fresh mussels are to die for. I was lucky enough to be gifted a big bucketful from a friend earlier in the week.

Normally I cook them with red wine and tomatoes.  As I had no wine on hand, I decided to bake them with pasta sauce and mozzarella.

They were so good, that I may have to go collect some myself.  What other free food can you collect in Nova Scotia?

  1. You should try them just steamed. Plain, like God intended them to be. Go digging for Quahogs or small clams. Make sure the beach is open though. Look for signs to make sure the season is open because people that don't eat them all the time will get really sick. Especially when it's the red tide.

    1. Oh Lisa I love them steamed too with a little melted butter for dipping.

  2. other free foods right now are fiddleheads.. should still be able to pick them..we are up here in NB
